With West Ham having earned just one point from their five games (four Losses and a Draw), and sitting three places below Blues, it would be understandable to think that their defeat this Sunday would be a cert. But, you only have to look at the Everton-Brighton game, three weeks ago, to see that nothing is ever a ‘cert’.
And Carla Ward is of the same mind: “West Ham are an exceptional side with a good manager, and they have very good players. The league right now doesn’t reflect what they are about, we have to be at our very best to get something from it.“
Blues certainly showed a lot of what Ward calls their ‘hunger in October, with three wins from four games. The holding of Reading away to one goal was to me one of the players’ finest examples of the way they are gelling as a team.
Rejoining the squad after being on the Injury List is Emma Kelly. It was an horrendous tackle that took her out of the Conti Cup game against Blackburn in the first minute. But she’s “loving being back.” And her boss is chuffed to have her back, too: “She’s been absolutely brilliant this past couple of weeks. She is a player that will constantly give you headaches and we are delighted to have her back. She’s not just great in terms of quality, but she’s great to have around the group.“
So, no time to be complacent on Sunday but another opportunity for the players to build on, and continue to improve, the character and the qualities they’ve shown.
Kick off is at 2pm and it’s on the FA Player.
Report to follow. Until then..
