It was in the runes

Last Sunday’s defeat at Brighton was inevitable, though others might disagree.
Following the summer’s deluge of departures, the team was left in a precarious position should injury strike. And thus it was on Sunday as Captain Kerys, Lucy Stan, Rach Williams and Sarah Mayling could only watch from the side. Thankfully, none is long term, although Kerys is not recovering as quickly as was expected.
Blues started brightly but it was a controversial penalty that put the hosts ahead and perhaps that took the seaside wind out of the visitors’ sails.
On the brighter side, the situation led to the call up of Academy players Lily Simkin and Freya Gregory for their debut with the senior team.
And one to ponder on. Mata Tejedor has previously commented on ‘keeper Hannah Hampton’s skills in the outfield. Perhaps the situation on Sunday should have seen her with a blue shirt on and Alex Brooks between the posts. It’s a theory that has been mooted.
It’s a Home game against League leaders Chelsea this Sunday. Hopefully, the squad will be back to full strength.
