Tough call
2October 10, 2019 by Stephen L Wright
A match against Man City is never an easy one. A match on their home turf is a tough call.
Man City come into this fixture with a 100% record in the Season to date.
Blues missed out on their last match v Reading as it was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Since then we’ve had an International break and two of the squad, Lucy Staniforth (ENG) and Harriet Scott (IRE) have both been involved. Stan was unlucky not to score in last Saturday’s game v Portugal. Thankfully, neither came back with an injury.
Blues have shown in their three games this Season that they have the skills to bring the game to the opposition and break into defences. Scoring has been an issue. The Man City defence now contains former Blues’ defender Aoife Mannion, who finally got a call to the Senior Lionesses. Of course she’s well known to her former teammates and it will be interesting to see how they shape up against one another.
It goes without saying that Marta will have to field her strongest team. But will she give Heidi Logan a run out? But this is going to be a good test of skill and character for all the players. They’ll need to be at their sharpest but we know what they can do.
So, bring it on. It’s not going to be pretty. It’s going to be physical. Blues have all the weapons they need. They just have to use them as they, and we, know they can.
See you on the other side.

Thanks for reading my post and for your feedback. All input is welcome. Without yours I wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to ask you to consider coming along to our next Home game on 27th. I think I know the answer to that, but there’s always the chance I might be proved wrong.
