Derby Day

It’s ‘Derby Day’ on Sunday as Blues host Aston Villa for the first time since 2011, the year WSL was launched. The last time the two teams faced off was in a Conti Cup match in 2015 at Villa’s ground. Blues raced away with a 7-1 win.
In preview interviews Blues’ Marc Skinner said the team was ready for its young opponents, but will have to be wary of the approach taken by Gemma Davies’ players, whilst the Villainesses’ coach said how excited she was for the match and what a great opportunity it is.
Neither team can afford to ‘take their eye of the ball’. Whilst Blues are undoubtably the stronger and more experienced side, complacency will be their downfall. Villa are hungry and eager for the win and will come out fighting. Whether they’ll not get carried away, as their coach hopes they won’t, and stay focused in defence as well is to be seen.
I think it’s going to be a great game and not at all one-sided in favour of the hosts. I hope that there’ll be a better turn out, too. Last week’s 500+ was disappointing to say the least. The Blues Women, and their opponents, deserve better.
See you down The Moors…
