Kristian Pedersen has become Birmingham City’s first signing of the summer, now it’s time to take a look at what the Dane will bring to the table.
I caught up with 2. Bundesliga expert Jonathan Walsh.
It’s fair to say he’s a big fan of Blues’ latest addition.
What can we expect from him?
“He’s a very good all-round left-back. He’s very physically strong, quick and especially strong in defence. He maybe lacks a little bit going forward because he’s not the most technically adept player but still makes his presence felt when he does attack. He’s very solid in the air, as well, which is a bonus. He should adapt very well.”
Can he handle the speed of the English game?
“Yes. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t. We’ve seen players from Germany go to England and struggle but, largely, defenders have coped better. Pedersen is very good physically and he shouldn’t have many issues in adapting to life in England.”
Is the £2m fee good value?
“Pedersen only has a year left on his deal so people might have expected a lesser fee but overall, for one of the left-backs in the division, it’s a very good deal. He’s only missed seven games across the two seasons he’s been in Germany, so it’s a very consistent player that will arrive.”
Best memory of the Dane?
“Good question, he’s only got one goal haha! I suppose the best thing you can say about him is that he rarely makes mistakes and his level of performance is very high on a regular basis that it’s hard to pick out one major high for his time there.”
