Blues found the perfect response to last weeks defeat with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Bristol City. A scrappy first half saw few real openings at goal. On a number of occasions Blues had the ball bouncing around dangerously in the Bristol box, but couldn’t find the decisive touch to break the deadlock.
Bristol looked as if they were trying to keep it tight at the back and make it difficult for Blues to play in the final third, however the deadlock was broken finally from the penalty spot on the 54th minute. Mannion slotting in neatly after a the Bristol keeper had given away the pen. The Bristol bench were not happy with the decision, but Leach dived in with two feet and the gave the ref an easy decision, regardless of whether or not she won the ball.
Blues got the second less than 10 minutes later. A dangerous cross from Ewers reached Wellings who fired home to really put the game beyond Bristol.Despite the their best efforts, Hampton had a quiet second half thanks to the solidity of the Blues defence.
The biggest negative from today was standing in the freezing cold is clearly not as appealing as a warm sunny summers day, as a result the attendances have clearly suffered from the move to a winter league.
