Sell our assets but don’t sell our goals
11January 29, 2013 by Made In Brum
Its January 29th, and in the transfer window so far, Blues have lost only Jake Jervis, who was never going to be a first team player. No massive loss. But it’s expected that Chris Burke will join Nottingham Forest (he could be playing against us on Saturday) soon, at the time of writing, Blues are considering a higher offer for the winger.
Burke is 29, has had an off-season and is out of contract in June. I don’t want him to go but I can see the benefits of cashing in on him, as we could lose him for nothing in June. With Wade Elliott and Nathan Redmond (assuming he stays) Blues have more than adequate replacements.
Jack Butland is another linked with a move away. Blues have been actively trying to offload the young ‘keeper who is seen as their main asset. Interest has been in abundance, but nothing has materialised in terms of an offer. If Butland does leave, it’ll be a loss, but we dust ourselves down and back Colin Doyle.
Curtis Davies would be a massive loss. Reading are sniffing around, but their £1m must be a joke, he’s worth double that. A Pablo Ibanez and Steven Caldwell central defensive partnership scares me a little, no pace, too complacent. But Lee Clark will be looking at bringing in a defender on loan.
The biggest departure that will be impossible to replace is Marlon King. He’s 32 admittedly and has a niggling knee problem, but his 18 goals last season and 14 so far this season are irreplaceable. Languishing in 17th place, where would Blues be without King? Nikola Zigic, although able and effective, is not a natural 15-20 goal man, nor is Peter Lovenkrands. The club have to do everything in their power to keep hold of King, and as a result, our goals.

A slight correction in that we have a 2 year extension on Burke, so we don’t have to lose him for nothing and I would hope we would be able to re-loan Butland for the rest of the season at least. Just a thought if Ziggy was off loaded would that be enough and we dont need to sell anyone?????? Just hoping Kro4ever
Hi Daddy Blue 1
The 2 year extension on Burke has to be agreed by both parties and would activate a pay rise, something which the club will not let happen.
If Zigic was to go, it would release a huge burden, but would still have to sell at least one.

I did not think Burke had a choice as long as we offered him his rise. So how many players do you think we need to sell or get off the payroll
nobody will buy zigic, overpaid and just not good enough to be a replacement for kings goals.Burke has been pretty awful for most of the season,i guess he lost interest when his summer transfer that most of us thought would happen never materialised.Curtis davis whilst not playing as well as last season has easily been our best defender and if he and King go then i think we are doomed to relegation.
Yes I would have to totally agree , even 1 or other Kro4ever
Would never normally advocate fans having a go at players but ZIGIC HAS TO GO.
HE IS KILLING OUR CLUB, OUR TEAM AND OUR HOPES OF SURVIVAL.
THIS GUY COULD BE IN LEAGUE ONE NEXT SEASON ON 55,000 A WEEK!!
We are on the verge of selling a bright young star for peanuts just to pay this greedy git his selfish wages and the scum doesn’t even have the decency to defer some wages to save the club from League One, because his own greed comes first.
He dosn’t care about the club, fans, nor the staff he works with at the club, but when have players cared about office staff, groundstaff, cleaners or canteen staff?
Bit harsh but I do tend to agree with you , he could save our club very easily but he wont Kro4ever
Would you take a pay cut at work? He signed a contract in good faith and without him on the pitch we could possibly be bottom of the table! The club could be doing more perhaps asking him to defer wages under the circumstances but to slate him is out of order! You mugs have very short memories! KRO!
I’m sure I’ve heard that Zigic’s wages are set to INCREASE even further next season as part of the last year of his contract deal when he signed. As soon as we go into admin and we can no longer pay him, only then he’ll walk away.
At the start of the season Zigic’s agent was saying a spanish club wanted him and that he would go. Now that nobody wants him,his agent says Zigic is happy at Blues. Which he obviously is,because no other club would pay his wages.
The crooks are in hong kong have we forgotten! KRO!
