Arbroath striker Steven Doris is set to join up with the Blues squad next week for a five-day trial. Manager Lee Clark had his scouts out to watch the 24 year-old during his club’s recent fixtures.
Doris, who has scored 12 goals in 26 appearances so far this season, will come to Birmingham with his managers blessing. Paul Sheerin (manager) told The Courier– “It’s an amazing opportunity for Steven. Birmingham have spoken with him and with me and the club about it, and he will be going down there for five days.
“He won’t miss any games, I couldn’t allow that, but he’ll be there for a week and it will give them a chance to have a closer look at him.
“We couldn’t arrange anything over the festive period because we have been busy with games and they have been the same down there, but now we are clear of that arrangements will be made.
“I have to say I’m surprised that no clubs in Scotland have taken a look at him, especially the way he has been playing last season and this season”.
He continued– “Birmingham first took an interest after the Rangers Scottish Cup game last season and they have watched him a few times since then including, of course, the Celtic games.
“Having these games on TV has raised the profile and it has been good for Steven and good for the club to get that exposure and recognition. If they want to do something in January we would get a fee for him. It wouldn’t be anything silly as we wouldn’t want to stand in his way, but the club needs to get something back. But we are a long way from that so we’ll just have to wait to see if anything develops.”
